"I started making pictograms, because writing out movement in english was too time consuming. Also, the descriptive terms I found were too obscure. The effort to make coherent, concise symbols went along with an effort to be more specific in how I explained what I was doing to my students and colleagues. The more I focussed on trying to language what I was doing, the more details I saw and the more specific terms I created to describe them.
